Edmonton

Edmonton (Aka Deadmonton, Stabmonton, Special Ed-monton, Edmonchuck, Zeus's Butthole), is known for it's large mall, it's penchant for stabbings, and the Edmonton Eskimos. Although summer's are quite mild, the winters are akin to being invited to the hospital to watch a still birth...very uncomfortable. At one point reaching -57, Edmonton was the second coldest place on the planet on December 15, 2009.
Edmonton has shat several celebrities onto the planet, namely Robert Goulet, Michael J. Fox and Leslie Neilsen. One of Edmonton's only redeeming qualities is that it is the birthplace of Marshall McLuhan, but nobody here seems to know who the fuck he is.
Edmonton is a conservative run town which, as a writer, give me a lot to make fun of.

I'm delighted to announce that we've asked Mr. Trent Wilkie to be a contributor here on Smearballz's logspots. Trent is a talented writer and a fantasy baseball enthusiast. He was partially educated at the Leslie Nielsen School of Communications where he watched all the Naked Gun movies in a row. I look forward to more Smearballs content from another perspective & another part of Canada.

Indiarrhea

Rockin' the home stretch of my trip in this cultural landfill site & just about ready to get back to freeze my balls off for the rest of the winter back in Toronto. The past couple weeks have been pretty interesting. I spent 3 nights in Varanasi warming up by the insane human BBQ they call the burning ghats. It was fascinating watching them parade the dead through the streets before dunking them in the river & setting the bodies ablaze right in front of you while hundreds of other people bathed in, shit in, and drank the raw sewage of the river Ganges . 200 - 400 human bodies get burned there every day. I stood 3 feet away from this burning dude while his family & I watched the side of his skull crack off and his brain swell up from the heat and ooze out till it burned to a crisp. Holy men & babies don't need to get cremated. They just tie rocks to their feet and chuck em in the Ganges. From time to time the ropes break and the bodies launch to the surface. I went on countless rowboat rides with my camera hoping this would happen but no such luck. After the BBQ I went to Jharkhand to go on a safari in the middle of nowhere. The place was shit. I was the only one in this hotel of 100 + rooms. It was like the Shining. I was stuck there for 2 nights & went on the worlds most horrible safari. The rivers were dry, I saw sick elephants with broken legs. All the watch towers were destroyed & most of the area had been taken over by Maoist Guerrilla forces & under heavy army surveillance. I got conned into driving through all this shit for 4 hours just to see a mediocre dried up waterfall. I got on the wrong bus & got lost in some other shit town while trying to get the fuck outta there and got surrounded by beggars for hours. Finally a man in all white denim with 'I'm hard to guard so don't even bother' written on the back of his jacket came out of the woodwork and spoke a couple words of English & got me on the right bus where I met a gross dude who knew every Britney Spears song off by heart. He kept leaning over me between singing Britney songs for a 12 hour bus ride to hoark his chewing tobacco out the window. I went to Calcutta for a few days which turned out to be my favourite city in the entire country. I stumbled into the most awful slaughterhouse in the world. Must have been 30,000 square feet of blood gutters and dudes killing chickens and goats in the most unsanitary ways. There was no refrigeration anywhere and hot as hell. Wild dogs were everywhere as well as crows. Hundreds of crows and crow shit all over everything. I got lots of footage & will never ever ever eat meat in India again. I also stopped eating/drinking milk products and have gone almost totally vegan which is very weird for me as the son of a butcher but all the cows and goats here eat garbage from the street. I ask myself.. If I had a wife and she ate nothing but candy wrappers and shopping bags full of rotten cabbage and cheezy bags would I let her breastfeed my children?? I don't think so. I almost beat up a cab driver the other day for charging me 10x more than the last guy to drive me the same distance. There is a general white man price as everyone tries to rip off the foreigners. Imagine if we had a special 1000% price in Canada for the Portuguese?/ It's not all gross and weird though. I have seen some beautiful countryside , ancient ruins and fabulous architecture like nowhere else in the world & I've met many amazing people. I'm now back in Delhi & bought a whole suitcase full of the dumbest shit ever for fuck all. Got a great deal on a couple a cobra flutes & a sticker collection that no one will ever be able to beat. I even bought something known as a Frans Trormer which is a unique toy robot that Franstrorms into a race car.

This place is as beautiful as it is repulsive. It is a land of extremes. I had a lot of fun & I'm glad I came but don't know if I'll ever come back.

Be home soon.

Another Sunday.......

Happy Sunday Evening Everyone.....I do sincerely hope you've all enjoyed your day!!! It's been a rainy day here all day so it was a PERFECT day for me to spend in my ARTHaven...which is exactly what I did.....I needed to complete 3 swaps for my ARTHaven group and I need to still work on my prize for OWOH that starts tomorrow!!!  I successfully completed the swaps I needed and am quite happy with the results.....

While completing these swaps I did design and create a couple of new cut files....of which I will share below the post......as always, if you would like these files please click the below images and they will take you to the page on my website where you may download them.......

Ok, so are you ready.....here we go......This first swap title is ATC Love theme swap.......here's what I created.....

PDC ARTHaven Love ATC 1-21-2010 PDC ARTHaven Love ATC 1-21-2010 (3) PDC ARTHaven Love ATC 1-21-2010 (4)No cut files were designed for this one......I used some of my awesome K&C paper........and then used one of my Cuttlebug Edge Embossing sleeves and did the embossing along the left edge.....I also used the same sleeve and embossed the metallic red hearts....then used my Tim Holtz sanding block and sanded off the high spots and hit with some Distress Ink Walnut Stain.......I took a heart charm and a fan charm....poked a hole through the heart and then used a bead and some wire ran through each of the hearts and embellies to attach to the card......I distressed the edges of the ATC with some more of the Distress Ink Walnut Stain and then wrapped two colors of ribbon around the bottom section of the ATC and there you go....that's my creation for this swap......

The next swap theme was TAG Love Theme.........My inspiration for this was some white doilies by Wilson that you get at Wally World or just about anywhere.........Here's what I created and I'll give details below.....

PDC ARTHaven Tag Swap Love 1-24-2010 (4) PDC ARTHaven Tag Swap Love 1-24-2010 PDC ARTHaven Tag Swap Love 1-24-2010 (3)To create this I took the white doilies by Wilson and used some of my Dew Drop Versa Magic Chalk Ink in VG-53 Red Brick and colored the doilie totally.......once colored I then used my Distress Ink Walnut stain and went around the doilies and over the raised surfaces....then I coated with my Versamark pad and covered with clear embossing powder and heat embossed.........then ran through my Xyron to make into a sticker....I attached them to a layer of K&C paper cut to shape.......I had also distressed the edges with some of my Distress Ink Walnut Stain.......(I created the cut file for the Wilson Doilie 3.5 inch diameter).....I then joined two of the hearts together and then did Dynamic Offset to get the amount of shadow layer I wanted..........So if you any any doilles you would like to use this technique with the file will be below......

Once I had the doilies adhered to the decorative layer I set aside and took the background layer of brown paper and ran through my Cuttlebug and used the Swiss Dots embossing sleeve to emboss.......then took my sanding block and knocked off the brown from the dots then used my Distress Ink in Red Lipstick to hit the tops of the dots.......

Now for the small heart in the center I used some of my grunge board......traced out the inner parameter of the doilie onto the grunge paper and cut it out....I then took some more of the same decorative paper and glued it to the grunge board then took my distressing tool and distressed all around the heart then ran through my Cuttlebug and used the Swiss Dots embossing sleeve to emboss......then used my Distress Ink Walnut Stain to distress the edges and the dots......

Then I took some of the Grungeboard shapes......key, lock and Swirley.....covered the swirly with the Expresso Dauber and then coated with Walnut stain distress embossing powder and embossed......on the lock and key I used some Gold Dauber then coated with Walnut Stain Distress embossing powder and embossed......I deliberatly left some areas uncoated with embossing powder to give it a worn aged look....ran the lock through my Cuttlebug using the stone type embossing sleeve...then hit both the key and the lock with the Walnut Stain Distress ink......I placed the end of the key into the lock then used some foam dots, craft glue and brads to adhere the pieces on top each other.......then used foam dots to attach the small heart to the background doilie layer and then foam dots to adhere all that to the base brown layer....

I used eyelets at the top and the bottom using my Crop-A-Dial ran fibers and sheer ribbon on the top and took some wire and beads to attach to the bottom...Whola!!!! That's my tag!!!!  Do you like it????? I do!!!

Here's the cut file I designed and created if anyone is interested in it...

Wilson Doilie Heart 3 1-2 Dia Frame with Double Heart and Layer

PDC Wilson Doilie Heart 3 1-2 Dia Frame with Double Heart and Layer 1-24-2010Now.....Are you tired of reading yet???? LOL...Please bear with me!!!  The last swap I needed to complete is the CARD Love Theme......I decided I wanted to create a Doilie Card for this design using hearts........so I did indeed do just that.....here's my finished card....

PDC ARTHaven Love Swap Card 1-24-2010 PDC ARTHaven Love Swap Card 1-24-2010 (3) PDC ARTHaven Love Swap Card 1-24-2010 (4)Once I cut out all my layers....I ran the base decorative paper...which is OF COURSE K&C paper...LOL...and used my Swiss Dot Embossing sleeve through my Cuttlebug...then went over the dots and edges with my Walnut Stain Distress Ink Pad......took all the hearts to be layered on the Doilie part and ran through the swirly embossing sleeve with the Cuttlebug.....I then hit the high spots of them with the Distress Ink Lip Stick......used foam dots to adhere the hearts to the card......

I then used my SCAL and cut out the word Happy Valentines with I believe the Brush Script font and then moved each letter over and welded together to my liking.....I cut the words out on the tan cardstock but then took my distress foam pad and used a mixture of the Walnut Stain Ink and Worn Lipstick to color the words...so it has a bit of a blended look....then I coated the words with Versamark ink and coated with clear embossing powder and embossed.....

I then used some of my burlap type ribbon and wrapped around the top of the card and then glued my words to it.......I used a seafoam green type paper to line the inside of the card and then cut an accompanying envie to go with the card...Whola....this is complete!!! I love the impact of this card!!!!! I hope you do too.....IF you would like to have the cut file for this you can click the image below.........

Valentine Heart Doilie Cut Card with Hearts to Layer

PDC Valentine Heart Doilie Cut Card with Hearts to Layer 1-24-2010So......Now you see what I've been having fun doing all day!!!! SO MUCH FUN for me!!!! T_SHIRT

HAPPY SATURDAY!!!!

Good Morning Everyone and I hope you're all having a FANTASTIC day!!!!!  I played until late in the night...or early in the morning last night with paper already, it was FUN!!!!!

I wanted to make up some remaining Thank You cards I needed to send out to some very special cyber friends so I was determined to get them done!!!!!  Now they're all packaged up and ready to go!!!!  Thought I would share with you what I created.......

PDC Thank You Card 1-23-2010 PDC Thank You Card 1-23-2010 (2) PDC Thank You Card 1-23-2010 (3) I used one of the cut files I created the other day and shared........I'll share another image of it below that links back to the page on My Website where you can download it if you like it.....I used some of my Dew Drop Versamagic Chalk Inks in GD-52 Jumbo Java & GD-54 Perfect Plumeria on the stamped images, raised embossing and edges of the cut files.....I layered the cut pieces over each other with foam tape........used some coordinating decorative paper from K&C paper stack and some pretty decorative wire ribbon...however I removed the wire from the ribbon......added a couple of purple rhinestones and that completes the card!!!!!

A very simple card...but I think it packs alot of pop....don't you???  Here's the link to the cut file if anyone is interested.....

PDC Scallop Circle with Inner Circles 1-18-2009

EPIDEMIC

Here's a commercial I made a while ago with Kenny Hotz for Epidemic Syndication. I made the music too.

Also Kenny got me in to do a big chunk of an episode of Kenny Vs. Spenny airing Feb 5th. I made 3 pizza commercials for 'who can make the best ad' episode. Mr. Nate Milk did the music for 2 of the 3 commercials as well. The crew also came to my studio to shoot the humiliation at the end of the episode. Check it out Friday if you're in Canada otherwise I'll post the link on showcase when it's uploaded.

IT'S FRIDAY!!!!

WOW this has been a fast week!!! Can't say I'm disappointed though!!! ;)  I plan on spending this weekend just list most weekends....Playing with Paper!!! Yippie Me........I do get to spend a bit of time at my aunt's house on Saturday to give her a few more Cricut/SCAL lessons...then it's me me me time!!! ;)

So, I had one more card for an order to create......it was for one of my boss's birthday coming up......All the other boss would say is.....make it something about cooking......hummmmmmmmmmmmmm, OK????!!!!  Well then I got to thinking.....she loves Paula Deen......and you know those old commercials with a lady holding up something and then having a talk bubble beside her.....well I thought....why not have a pic of Paula Deen there with a phrase like she might say with her good ole' southern drawl!!!! ;)  So here's what I came up with.......

PDC Birthday Card for Marie 1-21-2010 PDC Birthday Card for Marie 1-21-2010 (2) PDC Birthday Card for Marie 1-21-2010 (3)

I did create some cut files with this but none that would really be useful to most........However I will share with you I used my technique for cutting out my image with my Cricut.........and you can see just how AWESOME of a job my printer printed the pic of Paula through my Inkscape program........I've shared before that it's not the program that your using that determines the quality of your image in most cases....it's the printer and printer software you have that will determine it......

So.....IF you wanna learn how I cut my images out you are more than welcome to watch my tutorial HERE:

PDC Inkscape Tutorial on Cutting Image out with Sure Cuts Alot and your Cricut 9 28 2009

Just an additional note.....when I talk about making a "henge" I'm referring to putting your paper on the right edge of the mat and using a piece of painters tape to the edge of the paper and the cricut mat to create a "henge" so when you lift the paper up you won't move the cut out area from it's original cutting area.....

Okie Dokie....that's about it for me today....As always....THANK YOU for stopping by to visit with me....It totally makes may day when I hear from you........please know that......I love responding to you!!  I do hope you will come by and again...I pray you all have a VERY blessed Friday!!!! Until next time.....

Happy Hump Day....

Mid week already.......My how these days just fly by.......I've been working the past couple days on another card I have for an order.......the person it's for is looking forward to getting a Yard Barn this spring so I worked the Birthday card around this fact.......

While creating this card I also created a couple of files so I'm sharing them below if anyone is interested in them.......So, here's what I created......

The fence I coated with versamark ink and then coated with clear embossing powder and embossed to give it a bit of a shine so it would look more like a vinyl fence..........there is alot of detail in this card and I'm most happy with it..........

For the envie I printed off a graphic with my large format printer then cut with my cricut.......I designed the envelope to fit this particular card......LOVE MY CRICUT!!! ;)

So here's images of the cut files I designed and created...remember if you would like to have any of them you may click on the image and they will take you to the pages on My Website where you may download them......
